Ghostwriting Step 1: Talk
The storytelling process starts with a conversation. We discuss your story’s content. I ask why you want to tell the story and your plans once the story is in written form. If we get along well and your story excites us both, we move forward.
But our conversations don’t end there. In fact, this is just the beginning of an ongoing conversation.
Over the coming weeks and months, we talk via phone or video nearly every week. As we talk, I learn more about the vision for your book. Then I take this information to craft the book that’s in your head and heart.
If desired, I interview your colleagues, loved ones, and others to give your book the depth and richness it deserves.
Ghostwriting Step 2: Outline
A proper outline serves as a map in your book’s journey. Getting it right ensures we stay on the right path.
Of course, you may decide to change course in the middle of the process. That’s okay. Writing a book doesn’t always happen in a straight line. Together, we update the outline and keep moving forward.
What goes into an outline? The essential elements of your story. For book-length ghostwriting, this outline helps determine the content and direction of each chapter. Without it, you may lose direction and—even worse—you may lose your way and give up before reaching the end of your author journey.
Ghostwriting Step 3: Write
Once I know what direction your book is heading after an interview or two, I start writing.
During the writing phase, I’m not creating great ideas off the top of my head. I’m putting your great ideas on the page. I do this after each interview, then send you what I’ve written for your review.
Do note that the first draft is just that—a draft. Its purpose is to get your ideas in position in your manuscript. In the next step, I work to make your book really pop, so readers remain engaged from cover to cover. After all, that’s the only way your book will change lives—if people read it!
Ghostwriting Step 4: Revise
By this point, your book is fully fleshed out. All your ideas have been poured into me via numerous interviews, and you have something that resembles a book manuscript. But there’s still work to do.
Revising and editing your manuscript is the final step in the ghostwriting process. We discuss any glaring problems with the manuscript in content, tone, direction, etc., then I roll up my sleeves. The goal is to make your book manuscript good shine, so you can put your best foot forward, whether you plan to self-publish, work with a hybrid publisher, or seek a traditional publishing deal.
As part of my ghostwriting process, I give your manuscript two full edits. Additional editing is available, if requested.
